Since I was a child I like to learn martial arts, I remember when
I am in grade school my father had a martial artist friend and he wanted to
teach me martial arts every Sunday. But, my mother does not agree because I
always got sick and always got sprain. So, in that case I didn't learn martial
arts that time. When I was in second year high school my classmate gave me a
waiver of application form for Karate and he said that he was recruiting a
students to learn martial arts and for those who are interested to learn just
filled out the waiver. After that I gave task to my parents if they allow me to
learn martial arts and then they signed the waiver. I am so glad that they support
me to learn martial arts, and I started to practice with my classmates. I have
learned stretching, blocking, punching, kicking, katas (forms) and techniques.
But, I stopped because my aunt did not agree she said it affects to my studies
and my parents cannot support my financial for it. When I was in fourth year in
physical education subject we have a lesson in Arnis (Filipino martial arts) I have learned
the basic the twelve strikes or the sinawali but I am not satisfied for the
lesson because I can't learn more. Until I graduated in high school I did
not continue to learn martial arts.
But I didn't stop to find a school of
martial arts, because it's my passion when I worked in a Manila in 2002 a
capital of the Philippines it's far from our province in Albay. I found martial
arts gym, but I can't afford to pay for the registration and the monthly fees,
so I started a self practice. I remember my martial arts training in high
school even it was not good enough I practiced it repeatedly to be more
effective and I always watched a martial arts movies that time and I bought cds
and collected the movies of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Steven
Seagal and Jean Claude Van Damme. I tried to imitate their style and practiced
it continuously until I came back to my province.
In 2004, I came back to my province I have
enrolled in college to continue my studies. When I was in second Year College
it was 2007, I didn't expect to meet a martial arts instructor, but I always
think twice if I'm going to enroll in his martial arts mixed of Japanese,
Chinese and Filipino martial arts, until I have decided to go to his gym and I
payed for every session. I was impressed for the technique and style they
taught the right footwork, basic and fundamentals for punching, blocking and
kicking and different forms and sometimes we are invited to attend a seminar
for Jujitsu organized by Kuntaw it is also Filipino martial
arts. In three years of practicing in that gym I have learned a lot and it
helped to be more disciplined and got more flexible and I joined in a
tournament even I did not win but I have experienced a lot. Until I graduated and found a work I
always practiced the style the techniques and forms to develop the speed, power
and accuracy (according to Bruce Lee).
